# Set up a trigger in automation

> Choose a trigger source and trigger option when you create an automation in bitCRM.

Use this page to add the first trigger to an automation scenario.

## Overview

A trigger starts the automation. The current trigger families confirmed in the builder are **Shopify**, **Commerce**, and **Web activity**.

## Before you start

* Open [Automation](https://app.bitbybit.studio/bitcrm/automation-new).
* Click **Create new scenario**.
* Make sure the source you want to use is already connected.

## Steps

1. Click **Trigger**.
2. Choose the source you want to use:
   * **Shopify**
   * **Commerce**
   * **Web activity**
3. Choose the trigger option for that source.
4. Save the trigger.
5. Continue building the scenario with the next step you need.

## What happens next

After the trigger is saved, add the next step for the scenario, such as **Communication channel**, **Time delay**, or **Conditions**.
