Before you start
- Open bitChat > Chat Widget.
- Use a desktop browser for setup.
- Have your logo or profile picture ready if you want it in the chat header.
Step 1: Choose the Full page style
- Open the Widget tab.
- In the Widget type card, open the Style dropdown.
- Select Full page.
Step 2: Set up the welcome screen
The welcome screen is the first thing a visitor sees when they open the chat.- In the Welcome screen card, turn the switch on.
- Enter a Greeting headline. This field is required and accepts up to 40 characters.
- Optionally enter a Greeting subtitle, up to 80 characters.
Leaving the Greeting headline empty while the welcome screen is switched on blocks saving and shows an inline error on the field.
Step 3: Add suggested questions
Suggested questions are shortcut buttons a visitor can tap to start the conversation instead of typing.- In the Suggested questions card, select Add a suggestion.
- Type the question. Each one accepts up to 50 characters.
- Repeat for up to 3 questions. Once you reach 3, the add button is replaced by a message saying you have reached the limit.
- To remove one, select the trash icon beside it.
Some older widget configurations were saved with more than 3 suggestions. Nothing is deleted, but only the first 3 are shown to customers.
Step 4: Choose a launcher
The launcher is the element on your site that opens the full page chat.- Open the Appearance tab.
- In the Launcher card, pick one of three styles:
- For Pill button and Hybrid, enter the Button text, up to 20 characters. It defaults to
Chat with usand is required for these two styles. - Use Show button icon to control whether the icon appears alongside the text.
Step 5: Set the header and content width
- Still on the Appearance tab, open the Chat interface card.
- Enter the Company or agent name. This is required and accepts up to 20 characters.
- Upload a Logo or profile picture if you want one in the header.
- Choose a Header style:
- Logo and name
- Logo only
- Name only
- Choose a Content width:
Content width applies to the messages and welcome screen content only. The header and the message input bar always span the full page width.
Step 6: Save
- Select save.
- If a required field is empty or over its character limit, the save is blocked and the error appears inline on that field.
