The Product recommendation skill helps your AI agent suggest products from your connected catalog. Use its instructions to explain how to narrow down a customer’s needs and present suitable options. Check the recommendations against your actual product records before using the setup with customers.

Prerequisites

1

Open Product recommendation

  • Open your agent in AI Studio > AI agent studio, then select Skills.
  • Under Commerce, add Product recommendation if it is not listed, then open its card.
  • Review the commerce platform and connection shown on the page. Connect the intended store before relying on its product data.
2

Write recommendation instructions

In Instructions, describe what the agent should ask before recommending a product, which preferences to prioritize, and what information to include in the reply.
  • Use actual product categories and business rules from your store.
  • Explain how to handle missing preferences or an unavailable item.
  • Use Improve instructions to refine your wording, or Revert instruction to original to restore the default instructions. Review the resulting text before saving.
3

Save and enable the skill

  • Select Save skillset when the unsaved-changes bar appears.
  • Return to Skills and confirm that Product recommendation is enabled.
4

Check the recommendations

Use the Playground to test a specific request, an incomplete request, and a request for an unavailable item. Compare the reply with your catalog: product, variant, price, availability, and link.A recommendation is not an order. Use the separate Create order skill when you want to configure order creation.

Use example instructions

Adapt these examples to your catalog and business policies. They describe the behavior you want, rather than guaranteeing a particular product will be available.
When a customer asks for everyday shoes, ask for their size, preferred style, and budget if those details are missing. Recommend up to three suitable options from the connected catalog. Include each product’s name, current price, relevant variant, and product link when available. Explain briefly why it fits. Do not invent products, prices, stock, or discounts. If no suitable item is available, explain that and ask which preference the customer could change.
If the requested item is unavailable, explain that before suggesting an alternative. Look for a similar use, style, or price in the connected catalog, and explain the difference. Ask before changing the customer’s preferred size, color, or budget. Do not describe an unavailable variant as ready to order.

Troubleshooting

  • No products are suggested: check the selected commerce connection, catalog, and enabled skill.
  • A suggested product has no link: follow Fix missing product links.
  • The reply does not follow your preferences: reopen the saved skill, check the instructions, and repeat the same request with a fresh test conversation.
